GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) –
Inspired by fashion weeks in New York and Charleston, the first ever Greenville Fashion Week is kicking off with big dreams.
“Greenville’s known for being a foodie town, but we want it to be on the map for being a fashion town as well,” co-producer Sarah Houston said. “We’re bringing people from New York, Miami, California.”
The three day affair is bringing designers in town from all over the country to show off their collections. Fourteen shows will feature all the latest fashions Friday and Saturday in the Village Green, like 70s styles.
Designer Laura Citron was recognized as an emerging designer for modernizing 70s fashion. “This top is actually designed off my grandmothers top she purchased in shanghai in the 70s,” she explained.
Designer Andrew Clancey was inspired by Michael Jackson, so his models will be wearing wigs, sequins and props, styled like the iconic zombies in the Thriller music video. Flip sequins are this designer’s signature, which is trending in New York. “We dress a lot of celebrities,” he said. “This one Fergie wore for Black Eyed Peas and also Cardi B. This cape here was in the new Kesha video.”
There’s also a Fashion Village for shopping that’s open to the public, so producers are expecting a big turnout of about 10,000 people filtering through the weekend. “We hope to make it into an annual event for the next 50 year or beyond that, Sarah Houston says.
