Data compiled by a jobs portal on wages in informal sector throws up some surprises.  In Bengaluru, which is often referred to as the IT capital of India, a watchman earns an average monthly salary of Rs 10,152  while a data-entry professional gets Rs 10,141, reveals data from Babajobs.com, a job portal.

Babajobs.com is a Bengaluru-based job portal that caters to job seekers especially in the informal sector and entry-level professionals with a salary of up to Rs 40,000 per month.

Vir Kashyap, co-founder & chief operating officer of Babajobs, attributes it to the demand-and-supply situation. This means that there are fewer takers for watchman jobs in Bengaluru than data-entry tasks.
