Day one at Delhi University: Bollywood celebs share all the crazy things they did

Bollywood celebs share their experiences of first day at Delhi University colleges.

Excited or stressed about your day one at Delhi University? Relax, it’s gonna be a fine day, and a memorable one for sure. Popular celebs Angad Bedi, Satish Kaushik, Nimrat Kaur and Urvashi Rautela reminisce about their first day in college. Here are their fond memories…

Actor Angad Bedi was ragged by girls on his day one in St Stephen’s College.

I thought ladkiyon se to ragging banti hai: Angad Bedi, St Stephen’s College

“Ohoo… bade maharathi the humare senior. They were too many and all wanted to rag me. I was very shy and kisi se zyada baat nahi karta tha. Luckily, they understood that I’m a good cricketer and should be given a little respect. But the girls used to like, ragging me… I thought ladkiyon se to ragging banti hai. Aur kuch nahi to dosti hi ho jayegi. (If nothing, I’ll become friends with them). So, in that space I got ragged by pretty girls. But they just asked me ki kisi ke sath jaake flirt kar lo or tell someone that you like her, and maine kaha bas yahi kaam hain? Maine socha tha kuch [mere] level ka hoga… I had to say this and I became friends with my seniors. They said, ‘Chodo isko rag nahi karte… You are a funny person and we can get along with you.”

Our dream was to get admission in Morris Nagar campus: Satish Kaushik, Kirori Mal College

“I was very excited about making it to Kirori Mal College. Hum sabka sapna hota tha ki Morris Nagar waale campus mein admission ho jaaye and Kirori Mal ki dramatics society bhi kaafi well known thi, because of names like Amitabh Bacchan. Mujhe yaad hai ki baarish ka mausam tha, aur hum Karol Bagh se Morris Nagar bus mein aate the, tab DU special chalti thi. Ragging us samay badi cheez thi, koi rules nahi hote the uske against; to poora din you could spot seniors trying to gauge the newcomers. There was a certain excitement even about simply ending the first day and heading home from the campus bus stop.”

Day one was like I had just landed on the moon: Urvashi Rautela, Gargi College

“Day one was like I had just landed on the moon and don’t know what to do next. Well, there were orientations, speeches, intro with college mates and fraternity. We got to know the map of the college. Once all was done, I explored the college.

I would now like to recommend fucchas to visit the college canteen, jump into seniors’ classes, do anything. As ragging is banned in DU, feel free to talk to seniors. Though some seniors will be bit naggy and will put some questions and things in front of you but taking it spontaneously and smartly will help. Enjoy the day to the fullest — it’s your day!”

I was made to buy condoms on the first day: Nimrat Kaur, Shri Ram College of Commerce

“It was a crazy first day for me as I was ragged and made to buy condoms from a chemist, which I had never done in my life! I was married off to six people that day, had to sing songs in the garden, and fetch food from the canteen. I was ragged for the [entire] first week, but had to go through a lot of rubbish on the first day [itself]. I was very nervous and excited at the same time. That time there was no metro, so one had to travel by the DU special buses. I wore a t-shirt and jeans that day because I was tutored not to dress to attract attention in college, in order to keep a low profile in the first week. If you stand out in any way, then you are asking for trouble.”
