Sports now a serious career option: Farooq Shah

Underscoring the need to develop sports infrastructure in the Kashmir, National Conference leader Farooq Ahmad Shah Monday said that modern sports infrastructure would help in exploring the immense potential of the local youth.

He said the time has come when youth are seriously thinking of taking sports as ‘carrier option’. While inaugurating a cricket tournament at Ogmana, Tangmareg, Shah said that the youth possessed a huge sporting talent which needed to be channelized in a proper way.

He said that more recently, many youth including Parveez Rasool and Manzor Pandav have brought pride to the valley by dragging world attention towards their sporting talent which not only brought them into the elite club of cricketers in the country but also brought fame to the valley as well.

He said the emergence of these youth at international sports spectrum would help others take the sports as a carrier option in the state. He however, said the lack of facilities was playing spoil sport exploring the Talent of the youth. Farooq Shah however, promised that if National Conference came to power, the development of sports infrastructure would be one of the priorities in the Tangmarg constituency. He appreciated the Tangmarg youth for conducting tournaments and said such events would bring their sporting talent to limelight which would be the key to their talent getting exposed to outside world.

Meanwhile the Ougmuna Premier League tournament would be played on knock out basis between 34 teams of the Tangmarg area.
